A 6-week session to build and deepen your foundations on the wheel, week after week. We will work on posture, centering, opening, pulling, essential forms, and repetition. The program is structured to give you clear reference points and concrete corrections. This course focuses on slightly more advanced techniques and more complex pieces.
You will take part in every step of creating your pieces, from throwing and finishing to decorating and glazing.
Over the 6 weeks, you can produce up to 11 pieces, depending on your pace and the realities of drying and firing. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup a few weeks later, once the firing steps have been completed by the studio.
Classes are taught in French, with the possibility of support in English during free practice.
Course outline:
Weeks 1 and 2:
After an introduction to the foundations of wheel throwing and a demonstration on the wheel, you will be guided step by step as you create your first pieces. You will be encouraged to think in terms of collections, repetition of forms, and the addition of decorative details.
Week 3:
You will trim your pieces, defining the foot and completing the finishing touches and engravings before drying. This is also when we add handles.
Week 4:
We continue practicing on the wheel to strengthen what you’ve learned and create a few more pieces.
Week 5:
During this class, you will complete the final finishing steps on your pieces: trimming, engraving, and adding handles.
Week 6:
You will decorate your pieces using underglaze drawing techniques or by dipping them in glaze.
Time is set aside at the end of each class to clean the workspace and the tools used.
