Wheel Throwing & Handbuilding 4-Week Session

220$ CAD

Not sure whether to choose a wheel-throwing class or a handbuilding class? This hybrid course is the perfect opportunity to try both.

On the wheel, you’ll learn the essential techniques for centering clay and creating round forms. With handbuilding, you’ll work directly with your hands to create more free-form pieces using techniques such as slab building and assembling.

You’ll take part in every stage of the process, from shaping your pieces to finishing, decorating and glazing them.

No previous experience is required. This session is perfect for your first experience with ceramics or simply for exploring new techniques.

Classes are taught in French, with the possibility of receiving help in English during independent practice.

Each class is 2.5 hours long.

Course Outline

Week 1. Handbuilding
Time to work with your hands! You’ll discover different construction techniques, including slab building and assembling, to create unique objects while giving your creativity plenty of room to explore.

Week 2. Wheel Throwing
Discover the pottery wheel and learn the essential techniques: centering, opening and pulling up the walls of the clay. You’ll be guided step by step as you create your first wheel-thrown pieces.

Week 3. Trimming & Finishing
Trim your wheel-thrown pieces and add the finishing touches to your handbuilt work through carving, textures and details. This class is all about refining the pieces created during the first two weeks and giving them a polished finish.

Week 4. Decoration & Glazing
The final step: personalize your creations using underglazes, drawings and glazes before they go into the kiln.

Time is set aside at the end of each class to clean your workspace and the tools you used.

This complete session gives you the chance to throw, handbuild, experiment and discover which technique suits you best. Your finished pieces will be ready for pickup a few weeks later, once all firings have been completed by the studio.

As always, classes are kept small so you can enjoy personalized guidance throughout the entire session.
