Want to try pottery but not sure which format to choose? Here's how to find the experience that's right for you among our pottery classes in Montreal. Whether it's a wheel-throwing initiation, hand-building, ceramic painting, a session course, or a membership, there's a perfect option to begin your creative journey with us. At Tendre Atelier, we believe everyone can discover the magic of pottery, regardless of their experience level or goals.
For a first time
Taking a pottery class at Tendre Atelier requires no experience whatsoever. The desire to discover a new activity or simply spend a good time with people you love is motivation enough. For a first visit, there are several wonderfully fun options:
Wheel-throwing initiation, the most fun: This 2.5-hour pottery class gives you access to the magic of centering, the discovery of new sensations, the creation of small round pieces — and above all, a unique experience that will make you fall in love with handmade work and the beauty found even in the imperfection of your first pieces.
Hand-building initiation (not to be confused with a cooking class): In this 2.5-hour class, you put on an apron and, fingertip by fingertip, pinch, cut, measure, score, and smooth unique pieces you'd love to have at home. You assemble everything in a very specific order — enough to bring back the nostalgia of childhood, when your only goal was to have fun in a relaxed, creativity-friendly atmosphere.

Ceramic painting: Painting on ceramics — it's exactly as simple as it sounds. In the bright, relaxed area of the studio, you'll choose from several handmade models to paint. With a tea or coffee in hand, take your time browsing our image and inspiration library, and create masterpieces of utilitarian art. This decorating session guarantees a moment suspended in the present — alone, with family, or with friends.
If you want a complete creative experience
Session courses are perfect for those who want to go further in their learning. Over several weeks, we come together with clear guidance and great creative freedom. You'll create pieces from start to finish based on demos and examples presented at every stage. The studio then fires the pieces, and you'll always have something to proudly place under the tree when the holidays come around. Sessions run in groups of 6 maximum to ensure quality guidance for every student. Wheel-throwing and hand-building sessions are open to all levels, with everyone progressing at their own pace.
If you want to refine your skills
When you're ready to take it to the next level, or when you feel like stepping outside the structure of a regular class, the studio offers themed workshops. Over one or two days, we dive deeper into a specific technique — like learning to throw in series, making and decorating tiles, or taking part in seasonal workshops. They're announced in our newsletter and on our social media.
If you think about pottery day and night
We have membership spots available for those who want to create at their own pace. The membership gives access to large time slots on weekdays and weekends to practice independently, enjoy the lounge area, display your work in the exhibition window, and take part in Tendre community gatherings. The studio is fully equipped, spacious, and beautifully decorated — everything you need to want to come back again and again.

There are all kinds of reasons to come to Tendre Atelier. Our pottery classes on the Plateau in Montreal are always a wonderful experience to treat yourself to or enjoy as a group.
Did I mention you can also privatize the space for a private event?
